You’re listening to episode number 85. Removing the Veil of Injustice and No Longer Accepting the Anti-Black Narrative

In this episode I get to talk with Jaquikeyah Fields. Jaquikeyah is 20 years old and in her 4th year at Colorado State University. She is a Women and Gender Studies Major with a minor in Anthropology and Political Science. She was born in Denver, Colorado and is an alumna of Denver North High School.

Jaquikeyah has been an activist for as long as she can remember. She is passionate about Social justice, the Black Lives Matter movement, women in Black Lives Matter, and spirituality. We talk in this episode about her experiences growing up with homelessness and being a Black woman who was given a White narrative to live by. She talks about learning to have agency which is the capacity of individuals to act independently and to make their own free choices. To not be afraid to use our voices and rock the boat when fighting injustice.

Her message is a powerful one that will cause people who haven’t looked at the issues she addresses to stretch and see things from a different perspective. Which is exactly what we are needing in our world is a new perspective that includes the lives and experiences of black people. Jaquikeyah talks about the importance of no longer accepting the Anti-Black narrative and what we can do to help change the systems of oppression that had been put in place for far too long.

I learned a lot from hearing Jaquikeyah speak her truth and I hope you do too! It is time for change, it’s time to remove the veil of injustice. We stand with her and are listening. Black lives matter!
